How to visit Bhutan on a budget in 2023

All Bhutan & Beyonfd private and small grup tours include Chimi Lhakhang (temple), where childless women can receive a 'wang' from the resident monk and, legend has it, this enables them to quickly conceive.

The best way to stretch your budget in Bhutan in 2023.

  • James & Nicola of Bhutan & Beyond have unpacked and analysed the new 2023 Bhutan tourism tariffs.
  • These now include the increased Sustainable Development Fee (SDF).
  • The SDF increased from US$65 pp per night to US$200 pp per night when Bhutan re-opened its borders (end of SEP22) after COVID  closure since early 2020.

Bhutan Booking Patterns & Travel Tips for 2023

The general feeling is 2023 will be a tough year as far as extra airline seats and schedules go. Maybe in the second half we’ll see some respite but the first half of 2023 suggests continuing high airfares due to low volumes of airline seats on offer.

  • Benefits of Booking Early:
Lower airfares, but a higher risk of airline schedule changes disrupting your plans.

Solution: Ensure you maximise time between connecting flights and add in overnight stops where recommended. It will save you so much mental anguish & potential financial loss!

  • Benefits of Booking Late:
A probablility airline schedules will be less likely to be disrupted by schedule changes. However, you will pay a much higher airfare, and risk some hotels becoming fully booked, especially over festival seasons.

  • Drukair-Royal Bhutan Airlines:
Drukair has ambitiously released its schedule of flights through to 31DEC23. Only a healthy flow of inbound tourist visitors will sustain this schedule and that, as yet, is unknown, so schedule changes for flights to/from Paro (western Bhutan) are anticipated and that means stopovers in hub cities like Bangkok & Delhi are a ‘must’ in both directions for a Bhutan journey to proceed without stress!

  • Bhutan Special Offers for 2023:
These are the current 2023 special offers in Bhutan and we anticipate more being released as the 2023 year progresses. We’ll keep you posted on this web page. These offers are all for ‘private tours’.

  • Bhutan Small Group Tours for 2023:
Bhutan & Beyond has a great range of small group tours for 2023. Many include a festival and we only ever take a maximum of 8 travellers on any one tour. Less is best in Bhutan! Our small group tours are guaranteed departures when 2 or more persons book. Our Rhododendron Festival Tour is already half full and a guaranteed departure.
Bhutan's longest suspenion bridge is 180 metres and crosses the Po Chhu (Father River) in the Punakha Valley.
