Did You Know?
James Irving, of Bhutan & Beyond, is a joint-holder of the Guinness World Record for travelling to the most countries in a single journey. In fact, James & his cousin John Bougen, who was the brain-child behind this endeavour, were awarded 3 Guinness World Records for their feat.
Undertaken between AUG02 and MAR03, James & John travelled to 191 nations in 167 days. They also coincidentally travelled on 191 flights and on 104 different airlines. This adventure, called ‘The All Nations Quest’ was where James first discovered Bhutan and immediately fell in love with this most delightful hidden Kingdom.
Three books were published after the event, the photojournal named ‘My Dream -Listen to the Children’ featured the responses to our single question, to a child in almost every country we visited, ‘If any dream could come true what would it be?’ Proceeds of the sale of this book (sadly now out of print) went to our trip charity ‘Save The Children’.
The image above shows a small number of our airline tickets. Back in those days they were still paper tickets and not e-tickets as we are used to in the digital age.
There is little chance of replicating such a journey in today’s world.
