The Annapurna Poon Hill trek is famous for its sunrises & sunsets and is a perfect introduction to Nepal trekking, combining awesome mountain vistas with wonderful cultural experiences.

The trek difficulty rating is graded as a moderate trail because of its steep terrain, high elevation and basic lodge facilities. You must be at least moderately fit, be able to handle regular stairs on the trek trail, and be personally prepared for alpine conditions which can change with little notice.

  • Deposit date until 45 days prior arrival in Nepal – Land tour deposit is refundable less B&B service fees.  
  • 45 days prior to arrival in Nepal – your final payment is due & immediately becomes non-refundable.

Day 01:

Arrive Kathmandu by Air.

Upon arrival, meet and greet at the airport with traditional Khada welcome. Transfer to your hotel.

Day 02:

Drive Kathmandu/Pokhara (200 kms/6 hrs)

This morning, pick up from your hotel and transfer to the tourist coach station. Drive to Pokhara by air-conditioned Deluxe Tourist Coach. On arrival in Pokhara you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel. Remainder of the day at leisure.

Day 03:

Drive Pokhara/Phedi (30 mins). Trek to Dhampus (1650 m/3+ hrs) (B, L, D)

After breakfast you will be collected from your hotel and transferred by road to Phedi, in the Annapurna foothills. The trek commences here with a steady up-hill climb, with a series of stone steps, passing through villages and ultimately arriving at Dhampus ridge. From here the first sights of the snow-clad mountains rising above the horizon can be seen.

Day 04:

Trek to Landrung (1640 m/5 hrs) (B, L, D)

After breakfast, walk along a soft uphill trail, through protected forestland, which is almost like a walking up a gentle staircase. After crossing a small windy pass at Deurali village we will soon stop for lunch. Several peaks of the Annapurna range can be seen from here including the photogenic Mt. Macchapuchare (6,993 m). Descend slowly to the village of Landrung through forests and small local farms. Landrung is a well known village of the Annapurna area with a rich Gurung culture.

Day 05:

Trek to Ghandrung (1940 m/5-6 hrs) (B, L, D)

After breakfast, slowly walk down the stone steps to reach the Modikhola river, which is crossed via a hanging bridge. Continue to trek though farming terraces of paddy, maize and millet before slowly ascending along well laid out stone steps to reach the scenic and well-planned Gurung village –perhaps the largest and most beautiful in the entire Annapurna area. The afternoon may be spent exploring the Ghandrung village with its neat rows of ochre-coloured houses and well kept gardens. The headquarters of the Annapurna Conservation Area Project is located here.

Day 06:

Trek to Tadapani (2540 m/5 hrs) (B, L, D)

This morning witness the magnificent sunrise view from Ghandrung with the two peaks of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli acting as the backdrop of this attractive and beautiful village. After breakfast exit the village to the north heading into forests of Rhododendron and other hardwood trees. Traverse a couple of rivulets over which wooden planks serve as makeshift bridges. The forest cover here is quite thick offering a variety of sub-tropical vegetation. Tadapani is a narrow village in the shadows of Annapurna South.

Day 07:

Trek to Ghorepani (2830 m/4 hrs) (B, L, D)

Today’s is an easy walk as the trail meanders out of the forestland passing a few small hutments. Then trek among bushes and shrubs before reaching a wide grass meadow on a hill ridge. The ridge takes us all the way to Ghorepani, a busy trading village, that connects villages in this area with the Kaligandaki valley – the lifeline to Mustang region.

Day 08:

Early morning Poon Hill excursion. Trek to Tirkhedhunga (1577 m /6 hrs) (B, L, D)

Early morning, we hike to Poon Hill, a nearby hilltop which offers a panoramic view of the entire Annapurna massif (range) including its dominant peaks – Annapurna I (8,091 m), Annapurna II (7,937 m) & Mt. Macchapuchare (6,993 m) among a host of others. You will also see Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167 m) close to the left. After breakfast, walk along forested areas before making a steep, knee-wobbling descent to the sleepy village of Tirkhedhunga.

Day 09:

Trek to Nayapool (1070 m/4 hrs). Dive to Pokhara (2 hrs) (B, L)

It’s a gentle hike today following a mountain stream along a wide village trail. Quite likely that we will encounter colourful mule-trains as they ferry goods to and from the Kaligandaki valley. On arrival in Nayapool, you farewell your trek guide & porter/s where you are collected and transferred by road to your Pokhara hotel.

Day 10:

Drive Pokhara/Kathmandu (B)

After breakfast, transfer to Tourist Coach Station in time to board the coach back to Kathmandu. On arrival in Kathmandu you will be greeted and transferred to your overnight accommodation. Remainder of the day is at leisure.
