Introduction:

The trek difficulty rating is graded as a moderate because of its steep terrain, high elevation and basic lodge facilities. You must be at least moderately fit, be able to handle trekking at high altitude and be personally prepared for alpine conditions which can change with little notice.

Day 01:

Arrive by air into Kathmandu

Arrive in Kathmandu. Meet and greet at the airport with traditional Khada welcome. Transfer to the hotel.

Day 02:

Fly Kathmandu/Lukla (2886 m). Trek to Phakding (2610 m/3 hrs) (B, L, D)

This morning, transfer to the domestic airport for your flight to Lukla. You begin today’s trek from Lukla following a gentle climb up the mountainside on the left bank of the Dudh Koshi (river). Mt Nupla (5885 m), which can be seen in the distance on the opposite bank, is a peak atop the Kongde Ridge. You descend a mountainside path that merges into your route to Everest with views to a valley to your right and at its far end is Kusum Kang (6367 m). The Dudh Koshi approaches as you pass a Mani wall and arrive at the village of Ghat. You continue along a small path with many ascents and descents following the left bank of Dudh Koshi to Phakding.

Day 03:

Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440 m/5 hrs) (B, L, D)

After breakfast, start the trek following the trail ascending gradually towards Jorsale and  crossing the suspension bridges over Dudh Koshi to the entrance gate of the National Park. Later cross three more bridges as the trail ascends through the alpine and Rhododendron jungle. It may be possible to see deer & Blue sheep en-route and the trail ends at Namche Bazaar, the highest Sherpa market in the world.

Day 04:

Trek to Tengboche (3867 m/5-6 hrs) (B, L, D)

Today’s walk is a challenging one. This morning continue onward to Phunki Thenga for lunch, before the trail steeply ascends toward Tengboche village, again walking through alpine & Rhododendron jungle. Keep a look out for the different species of birds & animals along the trail and witness the spectacular views of Numbur (6,959 m) – weather permitting.

Day 05:

Rest day at Tengboche for acclimatization (B, L, D)

Spend today at leisure in Tengboche to assist with your acclimatization. Perhaps do some exploring on your own and make a visit Tengboche monastery the largest goemba in the Khumbu region.

Day 06:

Trek to Dingboche (4260 m/5-6 hrs) (B, L, D)

This morning depart Tengboche, with the Khumbu mountains as a backdrop, and descend through a rhododendron covered area; en-route pass a long Mani stone wall to enter the village of Deboche. Continue on to Minlinggo and cross over a suspension bridge to the left bank of the Imja Khola river. As you ascend the mountain path Mt’s Ama Dablam and Kantega (6779 m) appear on the opposite bank. Now ascend along the chorten-lined route, the trail passing Pangboche village and monastery, taking the lower path to Pangboche Olin passing a stone wall-enclosed potato field.

Continuing onward, cross a stream to a path skirting a rocky area to terraced hills along the riverbank. The trail climbs slowly, winding above the Imjatse River, to a big Mani Stupa. The walk becomes less challenging as you enter the Imjatse Valley beneath the mighty peaks of Ama Dablam, Nuptse and Lhotse. Dingboche village is a beautiful patchwork of fields enclosed by stone walls protecting the crops of barley, buckwheat and potatoes from the cold winds and grazing animals.

Day 07:

Trek to Lobuche (4930 m/5 hrs) (B, L, D)

Today’s trek offers views of the Mts. Tawache, Ama Dablam and to the north, Pokalde (5741 m), Kongma-tse (5820 m) and the great wall of Nuptse. After two hours walk the trail from Pheriche joins near Dugla (4595 m) before a small wooden bridge over the river of Khumbu glacier. Stop at Dugla for lunch before continuing for an hour up a steep hill to the top, where there are views of Mt. Pumori and other peaks west of Everest. After a short break, continue trekking up to Lobuche village, hidden and sheltered from the wind.

Day 08:

Trek to Everest Base Camp via Gorakshep (5380/up to 8 hrs) (B, L, D)

Trek up the valley following the rocky moraine path, en-route view icy glacial ponds and icebergs down below the Khumbu glacier. After crossing the last rocky moraine dune, a short downhill walk brings you to Gorakshep, the flat field below Kala Patthar (5545 m) and Mt. Pumori (7145 m.) Gorakshep is the location of the original Everest Base Camp with the new camp being further up the valley, another 2 hrs round trip. Now the trail winds along a rocky path along the Khumbu glacier. The view of Nuptse, Lho-La and Khumbutse slowly appear in front of you after witnessing this awesome sight, you then retrace your steps back along the glacier and are rewarded with magnificent views of Lobuche, Cholatse, Mt. Pumori and Tabuche.

Day 09:

Exc to Kala Patthar (5545 m). Trek to Pheriche (4243 m/6-7 hrs) (B, L, D)

Early morning climb to Kala Patthar (5545 m.) and enjoy the spectacular sunrise. From Kala Patthar you can have a panoramic view of Mt. Everest and other mountain peaks of Mt. Pumori, Mt. Lingtren, Mt. Khumbetse, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Ama Dablam and Mt. Thamserku. From Pheriche village you can make a telephone call to any part of the world. In Pheriche you will also see yaks, the porters in this area! Pheriche is known as windy town & from here you can see the perpendicular walls of Cholatse and Tawache. Pheriche is the base for the Himalayan Rescue Association, Aid Post and foreign volunteer doctors who provide medical treatment to trekkers and locals.

Day 10:

Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440 m/6-7 hrs) (B, L, D)

The trek from Pheriche is mostly downhill on the main busy trail with a few steep ascents from the bridge at Phungitenga, near to Shanasha. The walk to Namche is very scenic, en- route you will visit traditional villages of Khumjung and Khunde. There is an opportunity to visit the only monastery that has a Yeti Scalp. From Khumjung village another 30 minutes trek brings you to the village of Khunde, where you can visit the Khunde Hospital funded by Sir Edmund Hillary Trust. After Khunde, a scenic and pleasant trek brings you to Namche village.

Day 11:

Trek to Lukla (2886 m/5 hrs) (B, L, D)

The last day of your trek leads from Namche Bazaar via Monjo to Lukla. The trek route has few short uphill ascents and then descends to the Bhote-Koshi river and the trek ends with a 45 minutes ascent before reaching Lukla for your overnight stay.

Fly Lukla/Kathmandu (B)

Morning, fly back to Kathmandu from Lukla. Upon arrival, transfer to hotel. The afternoon is at leisure.
